from where i sit

There are many of you out there who are wondering “How on Earth does a dog know so much about humans?” Well, I will try to explain.
My Dad and I have spent my whole life together. The only place I can’t go with him is to a place where they hit and chase after a little white ball. This makes no sense to me, but I am a dog.
Anyway, except for that silliness, my dad and I are always together. And when we’re not out walking or cruisin’ around in the Blazer or going to work, I sit in the chair on the front porch and watch the world go by. I have seen so many different humans, although they all look alike to me. I have seen happy and sad and rich and poor and found and lost. And I paid attention.
The first thing I noticed about you humans is how you judge each other based upon the color of your fur. This makes absolutely no sense to me. And again, I’m a dog. Can you imagine dogs treating each other differently based upon the color of our fur? That would be laughable (if I could laugh). In what way is a brown dog better than a white dog or a black dog or a golden dog or a gray dog or a dog that has all those colors?! Because I’m brown, that makes me better? That really makes no sense to me right now, and I dive into laundry.
Look at this from the eyes of a dog. Why do you treat each other this way? How can the color of someone’s fur be the determining factor on the character of that human? Believe me, I am thrilled that I have four legs, great hearing and vision and a strong appetite (sometimes too strong). And the color of another one’s fur is absolutely no concern to me. It is the character that matters. It has always been the character that matters.
Another thing I’ve noticed is that dogs have to act like dogs. We don’t have a choice on that. But humans, however, CAN act like a dog, or a cat, or a raging bull, or a cockroach, for that matter. I have seen humans do things that I would not classify as humane. And that word is used, by you humans, to help my brothers and sisters find homes. But there does not appear to be humaneness when it comes to humans.
Is any of this making sense to you? Humans can take on the character of any animal on this planet. And then change and become another one on a moment’s notice. Humans, have you noticed this? You can be anything you want to be, but you are letting others make you into what they feel you have to be.
This is where the strong mind of a dog comes in. Have you noticed that when you forget to feed us, we still love you? Or when you see that our water bowl has been empty for a while, we still love you. You can hit us with violent intents, and we still love you. You can throw us in a room and come back at some time in the future (for us it’s an eternity), and we still love you. You yell at us and treat us badly, but we still love you. Think for a moment about what it takes for humans to make us go away. THAT’S WHAT IT IS TO HAVE A STRONG MIND.
I have no spin when it comes to humans. I do not favor one group over another, because to me, well, you’re all just humans. You have needs and wants and dreams and problems. I think I can help with your needs and problems. But, you humans are having a very difficult time getting past your differences. That is the root of all the problems in America.
It is why the boxer party has gone to the lowest common denominator, that thing that we all have in common, and simply requires its members to disregard color of fur, claimed sex and claimed origins. It is time to see all of us as Americans first, ahead of every mental creation of humans. From this single place, ALL your problems can be solved. That’s public problems. Public servants have no business in private lives.
From where I sit, I believe America can come back from the brink and restabilize itself with common sense and a common vision. Peace (always Peace first). Freedom. Family. That’s it. I believe that will be the solution to nearly all the problems in America. Let’s all drop the window dressings and look inside. There may very well be a chewy waiting for you. A really good one.
